This product features several significant pieces of federal legislation that deal with the criminal law. The Criminal Code, RSC 1985, c C-46 establishes most offences in Canada. Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Part 1 of the Constitution Act, 1982, being Schedule B to the Canada ACT 1982 (UK), 1982, c 11 is an exceptionally important supreme piece of legislation which governs which rights are protected and, indirectly, effects how the state can go about investigating and prosecuting crimes. The Canada Evidence Act, RSC 1985, c C-5 provides guidance on how evidence is to be dealt with in order to determine guilt. The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, SC 1996, c 19 is another crime-establishing piece of legislation dealing with the offences of possession, trafficking, and production of controlled substances. Finally, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, SC 2002, c 1 is a special piece of legislation which applies a unique criminal law to regime to young offenders.
