The Alberta Limitations Act, RSA 2000, c L-12, establishes time limits for starting a civil action in the courts. A limitation period is a period of time within which a civil action must be commenced by a person who has the right to bring a claim. If that person does not bring their action within the limitation period, they lose their right to bring the claim and therefore will be unable to recover any damages.
